It is often suggested that where we live helps to shape how we see the world. How do you think your experience, your ideas about the world, your education, opportunities, and interests would be different if you had grown up and attended high school in an urban/inner city areas OR in a rural area? Please consider drawing upon any real or imagined experiences you have had personally about urban/rural life, or those from pieces you have read as part of your studies at CHS/Epic.

We celebrate July 4th really big in our town. Our town is famous for firetrucks so we have a firemans festival. That includes a big festival in our downtown park and a parade that the businesses and groups take part in.
ReplyDeleteEvery August, we have a relatively large celebration called to Firemen's Festival. This includes a parade, as well as many other activities and events. The purpose of this, I guess, is to celebrate Clintonville's history with manufacturing firetrucks. It is a very fun event!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds cool! Exactly, what kid of activities and events take place?
DeleteWe have a big car show in the summer time that takes place on main street for three blocks. There is also a carnival that takes place that weekend.
ReplyDeleteIf you see any firetrucks with a Seagrave logo on them, they were made right here in Clintonville. :)
ReplyDeleteOne of our churches also puts on an event called famfest. It's basically a free kids carnival with a worship service and sermon. There is lots of free food and door prizes. it happens during the summer and over two days.
ReplyDeleteI live in a village outside of Clintonville called Embarrass (yes Embarrass..) and we have an event called "Fun Daze." It involves a lot of drunk adults and a kickball tournament. It is a fund raiser for our local fire department, so everything is over priced! It is a good time to hang out with friends though.
ReplyDeleteThis event sounds very interesting. I look forward to attending the event in the future.
DeleteIn Chicago, we have a parade called "The Bud Billiken Parade". Every summer in early to mid August we have this parade. TV Stations, radio stations, TV shows, celebrities and so many other notable people come out to Chicago with floats and music to go through this parade (about 20 blocks). Bud Billiken is a fictional character, but this day is very popular in Chicago. We mark it as a "back to school" parade. People come out early in the morning to get the best spots and to start to barbecue. Several news stations record the event to broadcast it to the Chicagoland area.
