It is often suggested that where we live helps to shape how we see the world. How do you think your experience, your ideas about the world, your education, opportunities, and interests would be different if you had grown up and attended high school in an urban/inner city areas OR in a rural area? Please consider drawing upon any real or imagined experiences you have had personally about urban/rural life, or those from pieces you have read as part of your studies at CHS/Epic.

What sort of sports do you have?
ReplyDeleteHey Darin, I'm Dierdra. We have girls and boys basketball, track, girls volleyball, cheer leading, dance, baseball, and girls softball, and girls and boys soccer.
DeleteHello Darin. what is it like to be able to wear what ever you want to school? And it this school like a college or high school through college?
ReplyDeleteI've never really thought about what it's like to have that freedom. If I had to try and describe it I would say you can see peoples personalities through their attire. It's the norm to "not judge a book by it's cover"; however, I think that you can see at least some traits of a person show through their clothing. So if I was to explain the freedom I would say it's another way for people to express themselves, and it's good to be able to express yourself in my opinion. As far the type of school, this is like a high school and we have Advanced Placement(AP) Classes that prepare students for a test at the end of the year where students can test out of certain college classes. In addition, we have courses like this English class, that are considered "dual enrollment". This means that we follow a college based curriculum and earn college credits for completing the class. Other than those two cases the classes are just made to follow the common core standards set statewide.

DeleteIn Clintonville, about 60% of our students are living in poverty. What does that look like in Chicago?
ReplyDeleteFrom all of the research being done on my home town it's 14 percent of poverty rate.
DeleteSince I'm guessing most of you have grown up in an urban area I'm just wondering if you have ever wanted to transition into a smaller town? Is it romanticized in larger cities? Or are you grateful for being in an urban area?

ReplyDeleteHow do you get to school? Is there a lot of traffic?
ReplyDeleteJade, I'm lucky because I live about a mile away, so I can walk to school, ride my bike or take the Cta bus. However, I know I a lot of other students have to take up to three buses, a train or combination.

ReplyDeleteWhat type of festivals are there in Clintonville?
ReplyDeleteWe have a "firemen's festival" every year and that's about it. It is exactly what it sounds like too, but with more alcohol than what you probably expected, but this is Wisconsin.

ReplyDeleteI have some clarifying questions about chs. what is it like to live in clintonville? What do chs offer for students with an IEP(Individualized Education Plan) or disability? What are some activities that are played in clintonville? and is bullying tolerated? Is clintonville considered equal in sexuality? What religions are presented there?
ReplyDeleteWhat Kind of organizations are there for teens to participate in?
