  1. I went to a private Catholic school from grade pre-K through 6. My mom dropped me off on her way to work. It was only about 4 minutes away. I went to public school for the rest of my education. Up until I got my own car in November of sophomore year, my mom dropped me off. I was only about 3 minutes away from school. Now that I got my own car, I drive to school. I have a study hall the last hour of the day, so I go home at 2:30. I have taken a variety of classes. My English class is a class through a local college, as well as my childhood development class. My most intersting class is sports genetics, where we talk about the traits of top athletes.

    1. Hey Kaitlynn87, how was it like switch from a Catholic school to a public school? I always went to a public school so can you touch on the differences ?

  2. Our school is only between about 400 and 500 kids. During elementray school, I knew most of the kids in my class, but I really did not know many other people outside of my class. In High School, I got to know and become friends with a lot of people from other classes. In a smaller town, you're really able to get to know a lot more people a lot more closely.
I have always walked to and from school. Our town is pretty small so if you live in town it usually is not that far to walk. Our school offers a lot of agriculture classes, along with quite a few AP classes and other general classes.

    1. I get what you're saying our school is small ,but the city is huge. we only have about a max off 600 kids in our school, whereas other schools have 3,000 plus schools here in Chicago.

    2. Hi Megan, I've always walked to and from school too since elementary school. What type of things do you see as you walk?

    3. What's it's like going to a school that's really close. Have you ever going to a school that's not close to home?

  3. I went to a private Catholic pre-k school however after that I went to the public elementary school. I rode the school bus every day, it was about a 30 minute bus ride, depending on who was all on that day. When we moved into town my mom drove me and my brother to school every day. It is only about a 10 minute drive with bad school morning traffic. Now that I have my own car and a drivers license I drive my brother and myself to and from school every day. There are a great variety of classes offered here at our small high school. They work with the local technical college and also UW Green Bay to offer classes that we otherwise would not have.

    2. Hello, Can you like touch basics on how you did you manage your time?

    3. Sapphire, I usually work after school so I meet my brother, who is 15, at my car and then take him home. The Rec Center is attached to our high school. So I drive him to our house and then double back and go to work.

    4. Mr. Joseph Brooks,
I have a planner in which I write down my work schedule. The work schedule comes out once a month, for the entire month. And then, after I get that planned out I put in family events and birthdays. When that is done, I plan out when to do which assignments for my classes.

  4. Our average class size is usually between 20 and 30 kids. There's actually a Spanish class with only 3 students. There aren't many AP or Honor's courses offered. We have the option to take either German or Spanish for foreign language. We have several agriculture classes. The most common ways to get to school are to drive yourself or take the bus.

    1. Those are a lot of students, at our school there's about 20-25 students ,but we also have an extra teacher in our room. Do you guys also have a extra teacher or is it just one teacher per class?

    2. Hey Katie, what class do you take Spanish or German? Why?

      Delete
    3. Sapphire,
We only have one teacher per classroom. Why do you have an extra teacher in your classrooms? What do they do?

      Delete
    4. The extra teacherare in the class for different reasons. For example, we have three teachers in one class the main teacher and the other two are there to help out the students with disabilities, however; in other the extra might be there to give the students a extra push!.

    5. Maria: I take Spanish class because I think it's a great language and it is very common in the U.S. Also, my family has a Latino background and a lot of members speak Spanish.

    7. That's cool, I agree with you. I wish my school could offer us another language like German. We have to take two years of Spanish. I also have a Latino background. My parents are from Mexico.

  5. I have gone been in the Clintonville Public School system for my entire education. My mom is a teacher at the middle school, so I always rode with her in middle school, and freshman year(our high school and middle school are across the street from each other). I got a car and my license the summer before sophomore year so I've been driving to school ever since.

    1. Our school offers a lot of AP classes, I'm currently enrolled in 2 AP classes, and two classes that are U.W. Green Bay classes but are taught at our school. It's nice to be able to get college credit while in high school.

      Delete
    2. How far do you have to drive to school and are you into any extra activities ?

      Delete
    3. Hi Morgan, what are U.W Green Bay classes? At Epic, we have four AP classes (APUSH, Physics, Stats, and Language and Composition). I am enrolled in them all. They are very difficult, but like you said it is nice to get college credit while in high school.

      Delete
    4. Does it ever get to a point that you miss driving to school with your mom, and is the AP classes and U.W classes give you a challenge that you want to drop your challenging classes and switch to normal classes?

  8. Well, the people above me pretty much explained all of it, but I'll explain my day. I wake up at 6:50 and get ready, and then if I have time I usually go get coffee, then I drop my sister off at the Middle School and drive across the street where the High School is. We each have our own individual parking spots that we pay for at the beginning of the year. My first class is Sports Genetics where we study different genes and aspects of athletes. Then I have study hall (only seniors have study hall) and then homeroom where we each go to an individual teacher and study or get help from teachers or catch up on work. Then I have show choir which is only 19 students. Then is sociology. After that is lunch, and then Sem (this class, a college course class through UWGB for English), then Business Management and finally my favorite, AP Psychology. Then on Tuesdays and Wednesdays I have dance, and Wednesdays and Fridays I work. Other days I usually just go home and do homework or binge watch Dexter on Netflix.

  9. Our school only has a little over 500 students, so it's easy to know everyone in your grade, and most students in the other grades as well. Most kids who take honors or AP classes see each other more often, since there are so few opportunities to take these types of classes, so they take as many as they can to try and get college credit. We have a homeroom period everyday and students are allowed to go to teachers for help, have a music lesson, go to a club meeting, and anything else to aid their studies.

  10. I went to three and four year old preschool at my Lutheran church in Racine. I went to a Lutheran grade school from kindergarten to 6th grade, but I skipped first grade. When I moved up to Clintonville, I attended another Lutheran school for 7th and 8th grade. I have been at Clintonville High School for four years now, and it has been really different to the schooling I grew up with. My work ethic used to be awesome because I balanced all of my sports, extra-curricular activities, and homework. My experience with the public high school has somewhat hindered my work ethic. I definitely was not pushed and challenged as hard as I could have been throughout high school and actually had to fight with the guidance counselor to let me take harder classes. We have a graduating class of about 144 and small class sizes. I always wonder how my life or education experience would have been different if I was going to high school with a graduating class of over a thousand in Racine, or if I was going to the Lutheran high school down there.

  11. We drive our tractors to school and our teachers also kiss cows sometimes. #FFAweek

    1. Why do you bring your tractors to school?

      Delete
    2. It's actually just a part of FFA week where the school participates in different activities put on by the FFA. Driving tractors to school and kissing cows isn't something that we do everyday.

      Delete
    3. Hi Sapphire, it is a tradition each year that certain teachers are selected to kiss a baby cow. It is just for fun and everybody has a good laugh.

Dierdra, we do not drive our tractors to school everyday, but once a year we have a "Drive Your Tractor To School" Day where it brings out the good ol' Wisconsin in us all. Since many of the kids in our school come from a very rural area why not embrace it and drive your tractor to school!

Maria, the top speed of the tractor depends on what kind of tractor they bring. We get about 30 tractors each year. The biggest tractor CASE IH STEIGER 600 QUADTRAC goes about 18.7 mph. A smaller tractor the NEW HOLLAND T5050 crusies at about 25 mph.

    4. So not that fast, haha. That's a cool event though. Epic is hosting its first 5k run/walk in May. Since our school is new we haven't done any big events like "Drive Your Tractor To School".

  12. Our school offers a lot of foreign exchange students to come, this year we have almost 20 students. It is really neat to see different backgrounds and cultures that they come from.

  13. I went to a private Lutheran school from pre school until 8th grade. There were only about 20 people in my glass so when I got to high schhool and there was over 100 it was quite a change. In high school there are oppurtunities to take AP classes for a chance at college credit which is beneficial. We have around 500 students here.

  14. I started off going to a public school for kindergarten and first grade, however that school closed and I transferred to a catholic school in town. I attended that school from 2nd-6th grade, and my 6th grade class had 8 people in it. I have been in public ever since. Our school does a great job of allowing students to expand and explore the world while still remaining students. We have countless foreign exchange students every year, and we have school-to-work program, in which students can earn credits by working part time during the school day at businesses and companies throughout the area. We have a large amount of students who do not attend a four year school, but most of them who don't attend a four year degree get a tech degree.

  15. My first 5 years of school in Clintonville were at a private Catholic school. When I became too old to go to that school I went to a private Lutheran school through eighth grade. Freshman year I went to Clintonville High School. It was a lot different than going to private schools. Thanks to the help of my friends and the teachers it was a really easy adjustment,

  16. My education has been a rocky life for me. I was the kid who got pick on a lot, and also one of the kids who had to work harder to be able to understand the work that was being given. I moved to Chicago when I was five years old. Went to preschool and then I transfer into a regular elementary school. From first grade to third grade. I went to a school called South Chicago ( Fun fact: Epic Academy use to be South Chicago before it became Epic also it was another grammar school as well. ) I transfer to Ninos Heroes in the middle of the school year of my fourth grade. Once I was in fifth grade I transfer again because I was being bullied, and was unable to take that kind of treatment. I graduated from Bradwell School of Excellence. Entering in the middle of my fifth grade year and completing my grammar school year there. I came to Epic as a Freshmen and was ready to restart my education life with a fresh start of being someone new and not scared about what people think. Here at Epic I am challenge everyday with the new skill learning. I been a student at Epic my whole high school life, and it's really nice being back at my old grammar school.

    1. Hello! I'm just curious, do you think that bullying is more common in larger cities? Or do you think that bullying occurs regardless of the size of the city/school?

  17. I moved a lot when I was a child, so I went to multiple elementary schools. Altgeld Elementary, Burke Elementary,Avalon Park Elementary School, and Horace Mann Academy, where I graduated 8th grade from. They were all public schools. Now I'm in a Charter school, were the atmosphere is totally different from public schools. Here at epic, they give us curriculum that will help us go to a great 4 year college or university. We work with collylege based text that will help us be prepared for when we do readings in college. Our school is very small, with approximately 600 students. We also have a class called "Crew" which is basically like a homeroom class or advisory. Crew is like your family and we do different activities, like play games against other crews. Every morning I ride the bus to school with my friends. Epic expects us to be professional at ALL times.

  18. I live literally 2 blocks away from EPIC and I’ve been here for the entire four years. EPIC is a great school. They help us with any and everything. The class/homework I might add is pretty intense. Throughout the years you visit over five colleges. Moreover, We get offered a ton of help to bring our grades up. The teachers here really care and tries their best to motivate us.

  20. I started off at a christian school from 1st-3rd grade, then I transferred to a public because there was too many students in a class room at the christian school, and my mom felt I needed more attention. I was at Medgar Evers Performing arts school from 4th-8th grade where I gained so many friendships. I've been attending Epic Academy charter school all four years of high school. My mom has been driving me to school and picking me up all my life, however; now I drive myself to school sometimes.

  21. Epic has many opportunities, we had students preform live at B96, intensives where we take career based classes for a week and then do present a project, based on what we learned that week, to the company we worked with.

  22. I went to a co-ed from the beginning since first grade through my eighth grade. I am currently at Epic Academy as a last year senior. I have been at epic academy for my whole four years. Where I live at I have to take 3 buses. I have to take a 115, 95E, and 71. It takes me an hour and a half to get to Epic Academy.

  23. For elementary school I went to a Chicago Public School named Arnold Mireles Academy, all eight years, that was maybe two blocks away from where I lived so I walked to school. Once I enrolled at Epic Academy I felt like it was the high school for me; even though the school is nothing like I saw on High School Musical on Disney Channel I was satisfied with its many perks. I live probably a mile away so I either walk, ride my bike, or if I’m feeling lazy I take the Cta bus. So I mentioned perks, the main perk, I believe about Epic is that it’s a Charter school, for this is the reason I enrolled at Epic. When I was in elementary school I wasn’t very familiar with college so I wasn’t planning on attending, ut my school has done a good job at changing my perspective. Epic does a really good job at challenging its students; I never thought I would be able to write ten page essays, take ACT prep, read college level articles, take honors class and maintain A/B’s. I didn’t believe I could attend college before I came to Epic: now I know that I am capable.
