I hope students from both schools enjoyed hearing about life in another setting. I can't wait to read all the scholarship submissions.
Last minute advice:
Show more than you tell
Concrete, specific detail
Voice! Let your style and personality come through the words and details you choose.
Keep it focused. What is your central point? Do you stay focused on it with all your interesting details?
It is often suggested that where we live helps to shape how we see the world. How do you think your experience, your ideas about the world, your education, opportunities, and interests would be different if you had grown up and attended high school in an urban/inner city areas OR in a rural area? Please consider drawing upon any real or imagined experiences you have had personally about urban/rural life, or those from pieces you have read as part of your studies at CHS/Epic.

Your Ideas and Questions
All the prompts so far have been based on the essay topic. In this section, ask what you are curious about and hopefully someone will respond.
Interests
What are your interests? (This can be in school, the field you want to study, the job you want to have, hobbies you pursue, etc.)
Purpose
The goal of this blog is to help you explore the topic for the Akey Family Scholarship as well as to learn about other teens' experiences. You may conclude that location matters very much or very little to who you are or who you may become. Regardless, we hope this experience is interesting and enriching to you.
Opportunities
What opportunities do you have in your community and your school? (You can look at this question in many different ways; there are positive and negative opportunities around all of us.) Are there opportunities that you wish you had?
Introductions
Introduce yourself and tell us a little about you: family, pets, interests, hobbies, goals/plans after high school, and other fun facts.
Education
Describe your educational experience. Possible points: Elementary or middle school, daily schedule, getting to and from school, courses offered, school rules/expectations, etc.
Imagined Experiences
For this section, don't worry about accuracy. If a person has little first-hand experience with something, they have no choice but to use what they've read in books, seen in the media, or heard from others.
When you think of a small, rural school OR when you think of an urban, inner-city school, what do you imagine? Again, use good writing skills; help your reader to really see, hear, smell, taste, feel what you imagine this experience to be. If you were teleported there right now, what do you think it would be like?
When you comment on each other's posts, clear up any misconceptions you see about your school or your community. What would you like people outside your community to imagine?

Real Experiences
Describe any experiences you have had in a rural setting (if you are from EPIC) or an urban setting (if you are from CHS). Where did you go and for how long? What do you remember (Try to describe in detail what you saw, heard, smelled, tasted, touched.) What were your thoughts/reactions at the time? If that experience was more than a year ago, what are your thoughts or reactions now?
